First Class Honours Success For LVS Ascot Class Of 2014

22 Aug 2017

For many students awaiting results August is a nervous time, but the class of 2014 from LVS Ascot are already celebrating after a number of students graduated this week with first class honours degrees. In 2014 fifty-eight students at the independent all-ability school celebrated A-level success, with over 80% of them getting in to their first or second choice universities. Three years on many of those students have now graduated with some excellent results in a range of subjects.

Cameron Mundie, 21, studied maths, economics and history A-levels at LVS Ascot before going on to sit a degree in Economics and Finance at De Montfort University in Leicester where he has just celebrated graduating with first class honours. His mother Nicola said: “The interesting thing is that when Cameron was at school in the United Arab Emirates he hated maths, but then he came to LVS Ascot and says his life changed when he met his maths teacher who altered the course of Cameron’s future. LVS rocks!”

Fellow LVS Ascot student Hattie Audaer is also celebrating following her first class honours degree from Birmingham University, one of the Russell Group universities which are considered to be the top higher education establishments in the country. Their 24 members, at which a quarter of LVS Ascot students go on to study, include Oxford and Cambridge. Hattie’s A-levels in Philosophy, Psychology and Drama led her to a degree in Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham, and her top class success is now taking her on a fascinating career path which will see her helping children with special needs. In October Hattie will begin a masters in Applied Theatre at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, with her area of interest being how theatre can be used to aid communication and imagination for children and adults with severe autism. Her ambition is to set up a theatre company, taking adaptations of classical texts into residential placements and special needs schools.

LVS Ascot Principal Christine Cunniffe was at Swansea University last week to witness the graduation of her son Tom, another of the LVS Ascot class of 2014, who received a first class honours degree in Economics and Finance. He is going on now to study a masters in Finance at Queen Mary’s (London) in September.

Another successful graduate with a first at university and considering a masters is Olivia Schoeller. Olivia has just received a top-class degree in Business from the Brighton Business School at the University of Brighton, and is applying for a masters which she may defer for a year to gain experience in the meantime via internships. She said: “I could not be more excited and I am looking forward to what the future holds for me”.

Tom Buxton, who left LVS Ascot in 2013, also joined the first class honours club from the school this summer having graduated with a first in Journalism from City University London. Tom was present at the LVS Ascot summer alumni event last month which meant he was able to celebrate his success with his former school friends.

LVS Ascot Principal Christine Cunniffe said: “I am delighted that our former students have gone on to be so successful in higher education.  LVS Ascot is a special place where every student can flourish as an individual and are inspired to exceed their expectations, so it is great to see that continuing beyond the school. Our numerous initiatives such as the LVS Advantage programme and unique Institute of Leadership and Management course are designed to ensure no-one is more prepared for higher education and careers than an LVS Ascot student, and we are pleased to see that borne out by the first class honours degrees received by our alumni this summer”.
