International Community School – THE MYP1 UNITED NATIONS MODEL CONFERENCE

12 Feb 2016

The IB curriculum has a strong focus on approaching global issues. It is the school’s mission to create compassionate global citizens. Following this vision, MYP1 students worked on a project about the causes and effects of malaria in developing countries.

Students have been practising their research skills using Cornell Notes. And learning the biological, social and economical implications of malaria around the world. Each student was assigned to a specific country and was asked to develop a strategy against malaria tailored to that country.

On the last day of the project, the students took part in a United Nations model conference where each presented his or her findings and strategy. Finally, the class elected the most appropriate global strategy. Allowing them to understand better the importance of international organisations, such as the UN.
