LVS Ascot Netball Team Into Semi-Final Of National Competition

01 Feb 2016

LVS Ascot’s Under 13 netball team is celebrating after winning through to the semi-finals of the national Schools Magazine Cup on Monday.

The leading independent all-ability school came through 35-29 after a close-fought battle against Truro School, who made the four hour journey to compete at LVS Ascot to decide the best school in the south west area.

LVS Ascot PE teacher and netball coach Rebecca Smillie said: “This is my proudest moment ever as a teacher. In preparation for the quarter-final the staff and team have put in hours of extra practice. We always teach that ability is nothing without hard work, and our whole school ethos of dedication and determination has been rewarded”.

Charlotte Jennings-Evans was voted LVS Ascot’s player of the match by the opposition and her dad was quick to praise the team ethic fostered by the school in the run to the semi-final: “They are really working as a unit and are such a tight knit team. It is totally different watching them now than when they started the tournament. Their netball development at the school has been amazing and the teachers have put in so much work with them”.

The semi-final will take place away at Godolphin & Latymer School in Hammersmith on Thursday 28th January, with a place in the final at stake against a school from either Chester or Brentwood in Essex.

Sport is an important aspect of school life at LVS Ascot, with pupils able to make use of a gym, indoor swimming pool, climbing wall and all-weather sports pitch amongst other facilities.
