A turnkey development for Smith Construction

Smith Construction have taken Oakhyrst Grange School’s vision of a new sports facility through vigorous design and planning stages and can finally prepare to start work on a turnkey design and build development this February.  A specially designed back-to-back multi-use games area (MUGA) is to be constructed on Oakhyrst Grange School’s lowest field, including a spectator area, floodlighting and fencing.

Oakhyrst Grange School is a quaint independent school situated on the outskirts of Caterham, nestled amongst five acres of picturesque scenery.   Oakhyrst Grange, Caterham’s leading independent preparatory school for 3-11 year olds believes in small, supportive classes of twenty children and has a total of one hundred and sixty students.

To ensure Oakhyrst Grange School’s bespoke scenery remains unspoilt Smith Construction have ensured all trees remain protected throughout the entire development.  In order to tie both MUGAs into Oakhyrst Grange School’s setting Smith Construction are installing Tiger Turf Evo Pro, which is a short, green carpet that marries in perfectly with the surrounding landscape.  Due to where the playing field is situated the area is difficult to access and requires quite extensive ground remediation, which will be reinstated once all works have been completed.

To provide efficient use of space Smith Construction are erecting a roofed cricket wicket at the far end of the sports facility.  The MUGAs will be separated by a divider net allowing the area to be used as two separate pitches or alternatively one large sports area.  The new MUGA allows for various sports to be played, these include tennis, netball, 5-a-side football and cricket.
