Queen Mary’s Equestrian Team Goes From Strength to Strength

17 Oct 2016

Last weekend put the icing on the cake as far as the Queen Mary’s equestrian squad was concerned, with outstanding results in both the Show Jumping and Jumping with Style competitions.

The emergence of new talent was especially rewarding. The Denny sisters (Bobby and Kitty), Maisie Caine, and Hattie Warne are new this year to the N.S.E.A. competitions and all managed to gain qualifying places for the championships at Milton Keynes which is run during half term. It was lovely to see Lucy Drake and Laura Maxey showing real improvement, jumping lovely clear rounds and also gaining qualifying places.

The Senior members of the team, Tara Barker, Lillia Schaible, Fran Jobson and Molly Brown were as reliable as ever.  They will be joined at the Championships by Olivia Murray (ex-head girl) who qualified while still at Queen Mary’s.  Dee Ormston rode the round of the weekend going extremely fast and clear to win the 80cm show jumping in a class of 64 competitors.

A few problems like flat tyres, horse boxes breaking down, the difficulty in transporting everyone to Bishop Burton and lengthy queues on the York ring road did little to quell the pleasure of a really rewarding day. Let’s hope for a rewarding and enjoyable trip to the Championships in October.
