Sibford School – PUPILS TIP THEIR HATS FOR NEPAL

Sibford School near Banbury has raised more than £800 for the Mary Ward School for underprivileged girls in Kathmandu.
The cash was raised after pupils and staff paid for the privilege of wearing hats in class.
Mary Ward School, which was founded in 1986, has been under particular pressure since the earthquake in April which claimed 9,000 lives and destroyed more than 500,000 homes.
The millinery fundraiser was organised by the tutor group of Sibford’s Head of Drama, Neil Madden.
Over the summer Neil saw first hand the challenges being faced by Mary Ward School when he accompanied his wife, actress Jo Joyner, to Nepal. Jo was making a video for the charity CAFOD which was shot in conjunction with Good Morning Britain.
“Mary Ward School has always done an important job in helping to educate some of the poorest girls in the area, but never more so than since the earthquake,” said Neil. “Many of the children are living in constant fear and so the school is offering far more than just an education, it is also helping to provide emotional support for these vulnerable children.
“I shared my experiences with my tutor group and was delighted that they wanted to do something to help … so much so that in the end the ‘Tip your hat for Nepal Day’ became a whole school event.”
