St Swithun’s Junior School netball tournament win

27 Oct 2016

St Swithun’s Junior School U10A and B netball teams enjoyed a successful tournament hosted by Farleigh School last week with the A team being crowned tournament winners.

The A team were confident but also a little nervous as this was their first tournament of the season. Their first match was against a strong Guildford High team, but with some swift attacking and resolute defending they won 8 – 2. Two more wins against Farleigh and Portsmouth Grammar School secured St Swithun’s the tournament win. A team members were: Izzy Bruce, Immy Watson, Hermione Murray, Amelia Johns, Emilia Richards, Emily Maclay and Grace Clark.

The B team played 4 matches in their group. They found the competition tough but their highlight was a draw against a good Portsmouth Grammar School side.

St Swithun’s Junior School director of sport Roger Marshall said ‘This was a very encouraging display from all the girls especially as Year 5 have been focusing on learning hockey this half term! They were all pleased with their team and individual performances. It is great to see them developing into creative and independent players on court, solving problems as they arise and requiring less side-line direction.’
