Thoughtful LVS Ascot Pupils Spread Festive Spirit In The Community

Thoughtful pupils at LVS Ascot have been spreading the festive spirit amongst the wider community in the build up to Christmas, with the choir visiting a retirement home to entertain and the boarders creating gifts to be given to the homeless in Slough.

Eighteen members of the senior choir from independent all-ability school LVS Ascot visited Denham Garden Village on Wednesday 7thDecember and spent the afternoon singing carols such as Once In Royal Davids City and The Twelve Days of Christmas and talking to their appreciative audience. Mr Wilder, Master in charge of Singing and Choral Music at LVS Ascot, said: “It is nice to share the Christmas spirit outside of the school and give others – particularly those who may not be able to get out to other carol services – the chance to join in and experience it too”.

Continuing the theme of thinking of others, girls and boys from two of the LVS Ascot boarding houses made 40 Christmas packages earlier this month which they presented to the London and Slough Run homeless charity who said: “Thank you so much to LVS Ascot’s students for their kindness and generosity to the homeless. They are really making a difference”. The packages were distributed to the homeless in Slough on Sunday 18th December.

Windsor Parish Church was the scene of LVS Ascot’s main Christmas celebration on Monday 12th December, hosting a carol service for all pupils from 4 to 18 and their families with junior and senior choirs performing alongside the school orchestra and jazz band. There were also readings from the Head Boy, Head Girl and Head of Boarding.

The Junior School enjoyed their own special festive programme including a Christingle Service at All Saints Church in Ascot on Thursday 8thDecember and the annual Nativity play on Thursday 15th December, which saw children from Reception to Year 2 on stage together performing for their families. Principal Christine Cunniffe said: “There is always a great family atmosphere amongst parents, staff and pupils at LVS Ascot but Christmas takes it to another level and through our talented singers and musicians events are always a true spectacle. More importantly, our pupils have shown the true spirit of Christmas in thinking of others at a time which can be especially difficult for some people. To communicate that to others at Christmas by visiting them to help them celebrate, and ensuring that the homeless are able to enjoy gifts as well, makes me especially proud of our students and their values”.
