Wellington School Director of Sport Coaches the Pros

18 Feb 2017

Wellington School is delighted to welcome back our very own Director of Sport and Wellbeing, Steffan Jones from his 5 week coaching role “Down Under!”

Steffan was coaching in the T20 Cricket Big Bash League (the only British coach to be doing so). He was the specialist bowling coach for the Hobart Hurricanes, developing the skills of some of the strongest bowlers in the world, such as Stuart Broad and Shaun Tait, who described Steffan as one of the best coaches they have ever worked with. For our pupils to have the opportunity to be coached by someone of his quality is quite remarkable and a rare opportunity indeed.

“I use the same coaching skills with all athletes from international professionals, to Year 7 and 8 boys and girls during their fundamental movement lesson,” commented Steffan Jones. “Having recently restructured the Sports Performance and Wellbeing Department, we have created an innovative and thriving programme which is overseen by professional full-time specialist coaches. This is a unique aspect of Wellington School and one which is reaping rewards across all sporting disciplines and creating healthier, more rounded athletes,” concluded Steffan.
