Wellington School Pupil Cycles towards the Olympics

24 Apr 2017

A Wellington School pupil is heading for the 2020 Olympics.

Evan Richards in Year 10 has been awarded Olympic Development Apprentice status by British Cycling. This is where the GB Cycling Team begin to invest more heavily in developing those riders that are showing the most promise nationally. The development programme helps the most promising riders become the stars of world and Olympic cycling.

Wellington School’s own cycling supremo has already bounded to glory in a National Championship when he raced in the Welsh Road Circuit Championships in Mid Wales. He won the U14 Boys race and is now Welsh Champion, he gets to wear the Welsh National Jersey when racing on the road. He is also 2nd in the GM Omnium Championship – which is the same competition that Mark Cavendish won the Silver and Laura Trott the Gold medal in the Rio Olympics – a splendid achievement – Well done Evan!
