Wrekin College pupil Georgie Hockenhull competes in Baku

Sixth Former, Georgie Hockenhull travelled to Baku, Azerbaijan to compete in the first European Games on 10 June.

This inauguaral multi-sport Games involved 20 different sports, 6000 athletes and 50 nations. There were approximately 150 athletes representing Team GB and Georgie was one of three artistic gymnasts in the GB team. Team qualifications for bars and vault were on Sunday 14 June and beam and floor Monday 15 June. Team GB finished in eighth position overall.

The top scorer from each team went through to the individual all around competition and the top six highest scorers for each individual piece qualify for the individual apparatus finals. Georgie qualified for the beam final along with five gymnasts from Russia, Romania, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. A great achievement to have qualified for the beam final, adding to her already considerable experience and success.
