Former Bedford Modern School student, Lewis Cleaver, sees ‘Brighter Skies’ for his band ‘Cast of Light’.

Lewis, who left BMS in 2011, has 10 GCSEs and three A Levels and is currently studying for a degree in BA Philosophy at Reading University, with the intention of completing a Master’s in Law in London after graduation.

“I had always been active in the Music Department at Bedford Modern School, having drum lessons from Year 4 up until Year 12, and was part of the tenor section of the School Choir as well as studying Music Technology at AS Level,” said Lewis.

“It was through a fairly vibrant music scene in Reading that I met the rest of my band, sharing a love for the modern folk music like Frank Turner, Noah And The Whale, Laura Marling and Mumford and Sons that we formed ‘Cast of Light’. We are a five-piece band, comprising two acoustic guitarists, one violinist, one double bassist and myself on drums,” he said.

The band has recently recorded and is set to release a four track E.P due to debut on iTunes on the 29 April called ‘Brighter Skies’. Prior to release, the E.P has been well received by local media including the Reading Post newspaper, BBC Radio Berkshire and Junction 11 Radio.

‘Cast of Light’ will be playing a number of shows in Bedford, Reading and London over the coming months promoting their E.P as well as heading head back into the studio to record an E.P comprising solely of folk covers of pop songs including ‘Million Voices – Otto Knows’, ‘Lose Yourself – Eminem’ and ‘Kids – MGMT’ which will be released in the summer.
