General Information

At Colston’s we aim to inspire all children to achieve their best. We have an environment where children are happy, grow in self-confidence and make the most of the opportunities we offer. Small classes and a generous staffing ratio ensure that work is carefully planned to meet the needs of each child. Our priority is to create a caring community where learning is fun.  Our students excel academically as well as enjoying access to first-class facilities and a top notch programme of extra-curricular experiences. Colston’s is an exciting place!

Superbly-equipped science laboratories; spacious, purpose-built art studios, IT suite and darkroom; Art Studio including pottery kiln; Food Technology Room ; 200-seat theatre; music classrooms, practice rooms and Chatterton Hall are a vibrant hub for individual performances and ensembles; media suite; DT workshop and graphics lab and library with professional librarian to help pupils access and enjoy over 12,000 books, DVDs and journals, plus other on-line resources. Hilborne Garden - a walled garden - is where pupils grow their own crops, study wildlife and enjoy lessons from subjects as diverse as music, science and geography.

Colston’s has an impressive sporting legacy with on-site sports facilities that are unique in Bristol. We have: 6 rugby pitches, 2 cricket squares, a floodlit all-weather hockey pitch, 6 floodlit tennis courts and 4 floodlit netball courts, a fully equipped fitness suite, 4 squash courts, table tennis facilities and a heated outdoor swimming pool, a sports hall with 4 badminton courts, a basketball court and indoor cricket nets. For younger pupils there are separate Pre-Prep and Junior Libraries, spacious playground areas for Nursery, Reception, KS1 and Juniors and the Forest School - our own outdoor learning environment - in the school’s woodland on the Upper School site.

As Colston's pupils progress through the school they are given many opportunities to contribute to the School and wider communities in CCF or Community Action programmes, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or Community Action (Volunteering) activities.

The school has a Learning Support Unit. There is an excellent liaison with classroom teachers and children with special needs, learning difficulties or who have English as an additional language, are well supported throughout the school.

School News

As a school we donated a record 311 Easter Eggs to the Five Loaves and Two Fishes charity.

Pupils helped to load the van and deliver

them to St Paul’s, where they were enthusiastically welcomed by Sister Annaliese, the nun who runs the charity. They were distributed to the homeless of Bristol, and of course their children over the Easter weekend.

Thank you to everyone who donated an egg to make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.
