North Bridge House Senior School Hampstead is just a stone’s throw from the distinguished village high street and provides a modern, purpose-built learning environment with a broad-ranging curriculum for 11-16 year olds.

From state-of-the-art Science laboratories to the Visual Arts iMac suite, the school ‘combines a very broad formal curriculum with innovative opportunities’ (School Inspection Service, 2015) for students of all interests, from Year 7 to GCSE. Classrooms are light and airy, equipped with interactive whiteboards or projectors, and overlook the iconic London skyline. To facilitate the number of creative subjects on offer, North Bridge House Senior Hampstead has three large Technology rooms, including an impressive purpose-built kitchen, as well as a Photography darkroom and a firing kiln for Ceramics. The Drama studio is host to many workshops and performance rehearsals, whilst the Sports Hall is a fantastic multi-purpose facility with Badminton and Basketball courts, Cricket nets, a 5-a-side Football pitch and additional outdoor air gym. The comprehensive library and Music practice rooms are open for students to enjoy during break times as well as lessons, supplementing the ‘wide range of extra-curricular activities that are an integral part of the students’ learning and which complement the formal curriculum’ (School Inspection Service, 2015).

Over in Islington, North Bridge House Senior School & Sixth Form Canonbury, (6-9 Canonbury Place, N1 2NQ) is the first independent senior school in the area and serves both the local community and international students. Starting at Year 7, students can complete their A-Levels in the stunning Grade II listed building, which provides an inspirational and historical environment for the school’s modern facilities and distinctive educational philosophy.

Surrounded by leafy landscaped gardens, North Bridge House Canonbury has spacious, well-equipped classrooms and a large central Learning Resource Room, stocked with laptops and furnished with a grand piano. The ‘Outstanding teaching and assessment procedures’ (Ofsted, 2015) are facilitated by three Science laboratories as well as specialist teaching rooms for Art, Music, Computing, and Media. In addition, the striking King Edward’s Hall is used for a variety of Drama performances, assemblies, concerts and events, whilst the iMac suite allows students to use film and graphic design within creative projects.

Given the school’s prime location, students enjoy the majority of sports at a range of nearby professional facilities. From Rounders and Tennis at Highbury Fields to sailing at West Reservoir and climbing at the Castle Climbing Centre, the school provides an exciting and well-planned enrichment programme to complement the innovative and academically rigorous curriculum.

great pleasure that NBH Senior Hampstead linguists attended the 2018 European Day of Languages competition at fellow Cognita School, Hydesville Tower.

The annual event is always highly anticipated among NBH students, who spent weeks rehearsing for this year’s performances.

The students embarked on a bus from London to Birmingham filled with excitement, arriving at Hydesville Tower for more rehearsals and to join Akeley Wood, another Cognita School.

Nerves were also part of the cocktail of emotions we all were experiencing but NBH pupils put their fears aside and performed without hesitation; singing in Spanish and French and playing the guitar and the piano. An impressive demonstration of coordination, courage and authentic foreign accents!

The three performances that NBH students showcased were:

Performance 1: “On ecrit sur les murs” from Kids United
Singers: Marie and Lara

Performance 2: “A thousands years” (Spanish version)
Singer: Maria
Piano: Hibah

Performance 3: “Nada fue un error” by Coti
Singers: Sarah and Todd

Our performers proudly represented NBH Senior School and embraced the opportunity to get to know pupils from other Cognita schools. Well done to all of them for not just their star performances, but for showing great initiative and ambition beyond the standard academic curriculum.
