We are a well-established, non-academically selective co-educational prep school in the heart of Staines upon Thames, for children aged 3 to 11.
At Staines Preparatory School, we pride ourselves on being different to your average private school. Our founders set out to offer a high-quality education to the widest cross section of the community, keeping fees as competitive as possible. This is a philosophy we stand by, and therefore you will see that while a Staines Prep education does represent a big financial commitment, it is considerably lower than our peers.
Does this mean our pupils have poorer outcomes? Absolutely not. Muddy Stilettos said, ‘Although Staines Prep is non-selective, the academics are an area of shining achievement at the school with children attaining scholarships and offers from highly-selective senior schools including Halliford School, Hampton School, LVS Ascot, Reed’s School, Eton, Sir William Perkins’s School, St George’s, St James’, Lady Eleanor Holles, The Marist, Tiffin Grammar and Sutton Grammar.’
A parent recently shared the impact Staines Prep had on her daughter, now at a selective independent boarding school in Oxfordshire: ‘The school developed leadership skills. She is confident, articulate and kind. The school advocated kindness and cooperation. She was given the space to flourish and develop her personality. Her teachers identified her academic ability very early and provided her with stretching work and nurtured and moulded her ability. The varied extra-curricular activities added to a well-rounded offering and participates in rugby at County level in
Oxford.’
Our pupils are taught in small classes, with individual attention and support. We introduce specialist teaching from Reception, alongside experienced and dedicated class teacher giving depth and breadth in their subject knowledge.
We embed a culture of pastoral support to our pupils where we listen and engage with our pupils on a personal level, as well as in terms of their education. The Staines Prep Way is a moral code which sets our pupils up well to work hard, push themselves to be their best but with empathy, self-awareness, and resilience. Our pupils often share that this goes to the very essence of who we are as a school.
The learning environment is inspiring, with specialist teaching spaces for Science, Design and Technology and Food Technology. We have a games hall, auditorium, outdoor classroom and forest school, AstroTurf and indoor and outdoor cricket nets, as well as a tennis court and sports field.
Our fees include lunch, resources, and UK trips including an annual residential trip from Year 3 to Year 6. We also offer an exciting trip to France, Iceland and skiing.

Facilities
Our school facilities not only include inspiring classrooms but a science lab and art, design and technology suite which many senior schools would be envious of. We have a large sports hall and theatre space which all pupils take advantage of from nursery upwards.
We are very proud to have been awarded the School Games Gold award which, along with our wide range of extra-curricular activities, shows our commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle for all our pupils across all year groups. Our playgrounds are full of activities that get the pupils moving and developing a Growth Mindset outside of the classroom, from a trim trail and climbing wall for the older years through to an array of playground games for the lower school and nursery.
Our Environmental Area, The Sanctuary, allows the children to bring science to life. They can pond dip, bird watch and even experience a barefoot walk whilst learning to safely explore the great outdoors. We use Forest School principles to teach skills that can be used in the classroom and beyond, encouraging team work, responsibility and communication as well as building self-esteem and independence. The children are not limited in what they can do but instead are taught how to access and manage the risks in nature.
We understand how hard our parents work and we aim to support them by providing wraparound care from 7.30am until 6.00pm. We are less than 5 minutes’ walk from Staines railway station, making pick-up and drop-off that little bit easier. We also operate a bus service from the surrounding areas.
Scholarships
Academic, Music and Sport Scholarships are available to pupils entering into Year 3 who demonstrate exceptional ability in these areas.
