Nail-Biting Result for Malvern St James’ Year 10 Hockey Team

29 Jan 2014

On 2 December, the Malvern St James Year 10 team travelled to Cannock Hockey Club to compete in the ISA Hockey Tournament. There were a total of eight teams taking part and our girls played some incredible hockey, scoring an impressive 51 goals in total.

They did not concede a single goal in their first four matches, beating Lucton School 5 – 0, Bowbrook House 8 – 0, Chase Grammar 10 – 0 and Bedstone B team 10 – 0.

Next in the draw was Bedstone A team, who like MSJ were unbeaten up to that point. This very close match ended in a 1 – 1 draw, which meant in all likelihood the overall result of the tournament would be decided on goal difference. At this point, there was an 8 goal deficit between MSJ and the Bedstone A team, so the pressure was really on for our team to score a lot of goals! Our next game was against Highclare and with some fiery play and great tactical awareness, we beat them 13 – 0, to put us in much stronger contention for the final game. In this final game we had to beat our opponents Dixies Grammar School by more goals than Bedstone could score against their opposition and we rose to the occasion to win this 5 – 1.

For a while no one was too sure who had clinched the overall title, but we were delighted to discover that MSJ defeated Bedstone by scoring one more goal.  Congratulations to the team, who are very proud to be the Year 10 ISA Hockey Champions.
