Millfield cyclist Lauren Dolan defies injury at Road World Championships to finish race

16 Nov 2017

Upper Sixth pupil and GB junior rider, Lauren Dolan, embodied true Millfield spirit by finishing 27th in the junior women’s time trial at the 2017 UCI Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway despite a crash which saw her slide on her right side, lacerating her thigh and knee.

Lauren, who joined Millfield Prep in Year 7 and is from Newton Abbott, had been working for two years towards a successful performance at the event in Norway. On track for a podium position at the halfway point, Lauren went through a tunnel at 60kmh when her front wheel collided with a drain cover on the road. The determined Millfield pupil finished the race on a spare road bike, only two minutes and 24 seconds down on eventual winner Elena Pirrone (Italy).

After the race, Lauren was taken to hospital in Bergen where she received treatment for her injuries, which included surgery on three deep lacerations on her leg.

Now back at school, Lauren is focusing on her recovery with Lead Practitioner, Millfield Institute of Sport and Wellbeing, Graham Williams, and plans to return to racing, as well as continuing with her A levels.
