Cheltenham College pupils win the GCHQ and GFutures Gloucestershire Young Entrepreneurs’ Inter-Schools Competition

A group of Third Formers (Year 9) have won the GCHQ and GFutures Gloucestershire Young Entrepreneurs’ Inter-Schools Competition with a design for a multifunctional helmet called the Helm-i.

The group, consisting of Edward Ferris, Anna Kuptsova, Gus Milton, Piers Morgan and Duncan Pinchen, were selected to represent Cheltenham College following the Dragons’ Den competition held at College earlier in the year. In the last few weeks, they have been perfecting their pitch about their product. Helm-i is a multifunctional helmet for both sport and travel, for example by cyclists, motorcyclists, and skateboarders! It integrates with your phone to make calls, play music or give directions. It also uses a voice command system (such as Siri or Cortana) and can display various information including GPS maps, on an interactive visor.

The team delivered a confident presentation and Deputy Chief Technical Officer at GCHQ and the head judge said, “This is one of the most enjoyable things I do because to see the enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit of the youngsters makes me really optimistic for the future.”
