Cross country victory for Wrekin Girls

30 Jun 2015

At the very end of the Lent term the Wrekin College girls’ cross country team completed an extraordinarily successful season by winning the East Midlands Independent Schools’ Cross Country League by 112 points, ahead of the runners-up Bromsgrove School. The league consists of a series of five races held at various venues across the Midlands with 14 top schools competing for the prestigious title.

In showing their dominance, Wrekin won all five league races, beating much larger schools with a fiercely competitive cross country history and for the first time put Wrekin College on the winner’s trophy alongside the last 10 year’s dominant winners: Oundle School, Uppingham School and Stamford School.

In addition to this, the team captain, Dani Rowlinson, won the individual silver medal with Lizzie Benbow coming fourth overall, closely followed by sister, Georgie Benbow in fifth place, Tess Sanders in sixth and Sophia Malpass in seventh. Furthermore, the Wrekin reserves won the B team event, overall an outstanding achievement for the squad.
