Hereford Cathedral School – Biology Teacher of the Year Finalist

30 Mar 2015

Congratulations to Hereford Cathedral School’s Head of Biology, Mrs Elena Segalini-Bower, a finalist for The Society of Biology’s 2015 School Biology Teacher of the Year Award.

As a finalist Mrs Segalini-Bower has been acknowledged by the Society as one of the year’s top three Biology Teachers.  The award, with the winner to be announced later this year following a final stage of judging, seeks to identify and to recognise the very best and most inspiring biology teachers in 11-18 education in the UK.

Dr Mark Downs FSB, chief executive of the Society of Biology, said:

“Excellent teachers have a profound and positive effect on their students’ learning; widening their students’ knowledge and skills base, increasing their self-confidence and raising their aspirations. The entrants for this year’s award are teaching outstanding and innovative lessons which inspire and enthuse their students. Many congratulations to our three award finalists and one highly commended teacher.”

Mr Paul Smith, Headmaster of Hereford Cathedral School, added:

“I am delighted that all Elena’s hard work and dedication to Biology, the School and our pupils has been recognised at such a high level by the Society of Biology.  My congratulation to Elena and the Biology Department at the School.”

Mrs Elena Segalini-Bower, Head of Biology at Hereford Cathedral School, said:

“It was amazing just to be nominated for this award, but to be shortlisted as a finalist is a true honour!  My thanks must firstly go to the School and my department for their unrivalled support, but I must also thank all the pupils at the School for making biology such a joy to teach  – it is a privilege to work with you all.”
