RGS Worcester – innovative Careers and Higher Ed Expo open to all

Last Thursday saw the largest ever RGS Worcester Careers and Higher Education EXPO take over the Senior School site. More than 100 exhibitors ranging from Healthcare and Engineering, to the Creative Arts and Finance, Law and Entrepreneurship were on hand to offer advice and guidance to over 200 visitors from RGS and other Worcestershire schools. The event is unique to RGS demonstrating the strength of the School’s Careers provision and links with businesses, that now benefit high school pupils from right across the region.
The importance of Higher Education and Degree Apprenticeships was showcased along with a Drop-in Careers Advice session with the Morrisby organisation. Students were also able to discover more about the GlobalBridge which offers a virtual, media rich, online CV to showcase talents through video, image and soundbites. Medical Mavericks and CH2M engaged pupils with interactive stands, Anja Potze demonstrated diamond grading, providing something for everyone.
Cameron Taylor, Year Nine said, “It has been really good to see what different universities offer and a great opportunity to find out what you can do there that you really enjoy.”
Josh Warner, Year Eleven said, “It’s been really helpful to talk to a lawyer face to face and find out what the different stages are in becoming one. They have been really helpful with work experience advice and information about my career path.”
Parent, Mr Chris Hallam commented, “This is a fantastic opportunity for students; it really stimulates their thinking and allows them to imagine what they could do.”
Former RGS pupils and current parents were amongst the exhibitors, making this a real community event. Pupils queued up to take ‘selfies’ sitting in the Aston Martin and Land Rover F-PACE cars parked at the entrance.
Mrs Nicholls, Head of Careers said “The EXPO showcases delegates from a diverse range of sectors, all in one place, and this provides a unique and amazing opportunity for students from around Worcestershire. The event allows pupils to experience the wide variety of choices that are available beyond school and engage with the business community which really fires their curiosity about the world of work and careers.”
Mr John Pitt, Headmaster said, “The Careers EXPO on Thursday evening was, once again, an extremely impressive event and was particularly striking since Aston Martin and Land Rover both provided their top of the range cars to mark out the entrance to the EXPO. This event is now attracting visitors from a number of other schools, as RGS demonstrates that our Careers provision is also top of the range.”
The event was a great success and feedback from exhibitors confirmed that the future is bright for young people and that there is a wealth of opportunities waiting for them.
