A Trinity pupil’s art work has been shortlisted for the 2015 Saatchi Gallery/ Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools.
The Saatchi Gallery / Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools received over 20,000 entries for its annual competition
- Former Trinity pupil, Chris O’Brien’s artwork is one of only 20 chosen for exhibition
- There will be an exhibition of the 20 shortlisted entries at the Saatchi Gallery 28th April – 4th May
The work, Philosophy, by Chris O’Brien who left the school last year, has been chosen as one of only 20 artworks selected from 20,000 entries for this year’s competition.
There will be an exhibition of the 20 shortlisted entries at the Saatchi Gallery from 28th April to 4th May 2015.
A first prize of £10,000 will be awarded to the winning school’s art department, with a further £2,000 given to the winning pupil to be spent on art and computer equipment.
Two further runner-up prizes of £5,000 each will be awarded to the second and third placed schools, with a further £1,000 to each of the winning pupils. The winner and runner-up prizes will be announced at 7pm on the 28th April at the opening event.
This year’s prestigious judging panel consisted of Lauren Child MBE, writer, illustrator and creator of ‘Charlie and Lola’; Catherine Goodman, Artistic Director of The Royal Drawing Schools; Alistair Hicks, Art Advisor to Deutsche Bank; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery and Richard Wilson, Artist whose work includes 20:50 which is on permanent display at the Saatchi Gallery.
Alan Smith, Trinity’s Director of Art, said “It’s fantastic that Chris has been shortlisted from 20,000 entrants and will be showing his work in the Saatchi Gallery – he thoroughly deserves the opportunity and recognition. He is a gifted artist and I am sure this is only the beginning of his success. All of the art department are thrilled and wish him well.”
Chris, who is now studying at Illustration at Plymouth University is bowled over by the news and said, “ Wow! It’s really amazing I can’t believe it! I feel so honoured to have my work displayed at a gallery like the Saatchi.”
