Taunton School – Pre-Foundation and International Foundation Year courses

As well as being a World IB school, Taunton has recently become one of the only UK educational institutions to offer international students an alternative two-year pathway to higher education.

Successful completion of the globally-recognised NCUK International Foundation Year for 17 and 18-year-olds leads to a guaranteed place at one of more than 40 renowned English-speaking universities in the UK and abroad. For students joining Taunton at 16 or 17, the school has launched its own bespoke Pre-Foundation year. The two courses combined create a sixth-form alternative to A-levels or the IB. The school has just seen its first cohort complete the two year pathway with a 100% pass rate – every student on the course this year received offers from every university they applied to, both in the UK and Canada. It’s been such a success in its first year that registrations for the course have doubled for next year.

Taunton School International has been welcoming international students since 1996. A sister middle school for younger pupils opened in 2012. Both schools form part of the 56-acre Taunton School site in Somerset in south west England.

With more than 30 per cent of pupils across all settings coming from overseas, the school enjoys strong global links. A 3:1 staff student ratio ensures international pupils have support tailored to their individual needs, whilst enjoying all extra-curricular activities and sport with the main school.

The Pre-Foundation Year (PFY) prepares 16-17-year-olds for the globally-recognised NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) in Year 13, where students are guaranteed a place at leading English-speaking universities on successful completion of the course. Notable universities included in the scheme include:

The combination of the two courses is a UK first and offers an alternative university pathway to traditional A-levels, the International Baccalaureate and BTECs, which are also offered by Taunton School. Students cover business, economics and mathematics as well as critical thinking skills and use of English for Academic Purposes.
