Changes to Day and Boarding Provision at Cheltenham Ladies’ College from September 2021

10 Mar 2021

We are pleased to announce some developments in College’s provision, allowing greater flexibility for our day and boarding pupils as of September 2021.

Day Pupil Provision

Following feedback from a recent parent survey which showed a keenness for greater flexibility, we will be trialling ‘occasional boarding’ for our day pupils from September. Pupils will have the option to stay at College overnight, including supper and breakfast, on any night except Saturday.

Three new day girl dormitories of four beds each, all benefitting from en-suite bathrooms, will be made available for this purpose in Gransden and will be supervised by experienced residential boarding house staff. Pupils will share with girls in their division, with dorms allocated to Lower College, Upper College and Sixth Form students.

This trial period will be reviewed at the end of the academic year (2021-2022).

Boarding Pupil Provision

We will also be extending greater flexibility to all boarding pupils, as of September 2021. In addition to the full Exeats and half terms, for most weekends, boarders will be permitted to leave College on a Saturday afternoon to be with their families or guardians once they have fulfilled their afternoon commitments, many of which will be sporting. There will be some exceptions such as the first and last weekends of every term, and special functions, during which boarders will be expected to remain in residence. This flexibility in our boarding offering is currently already enjoyed by our Sixth Form boarding community.

By making this adjustment, more parents will be able to support their daughter’s participation in College events during Saturday afternoons and evenings and feel a greater sense of connection to the College community. All girls will then be expected to return to their boarding house for supper on the Sunday evening.

We believe that this adjustment will ensure that boarding continues to be a vibrant, appealing and fulfilling option for pupils who are based both near and far.
