Cheltenham Ladies’ College – PHILOSOPHY AND ETHICS CONFERENCE

29 Feb 2016

Now in its thirteenth year, the annual Philosophy and Ethics Conference, organised and hosted by College, saw 400 Sixth Form students of Religious Studies and Philosophy from across the South West gather to hear three eminent speakers.

The first two, Professors Barry Smith and Patrick Haggard, both from University College London, gave their different interpretations of the famous Libet experiments and its implications for the question of free will.

We also heard Dr Michael Lacewing of Heythrop College, University of London, talking about the issue of evil. One attendee said that it was another excellent day and that “the speakers added a contemporary edge to the debate this year”.
