Six former Millfield rugby players have been selected for their respective home nations for this year’s Six Nations tournament.

Mako Vunipola (England), Josh Bayliss (Scotland), Huw Jones (Scotland) and Rhys Davies (Wales) are on the team sheet as well as U20 players Sam Harris (England) and Eddie Erskine (Scotland).

Six Nations is an annual, international competition between England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The teams compete across six weeks of fierce competition, culminating with Super Saturday on 18 March 2023. France were victorious in last year’s competition.

Millfield’s Director of Rugby is former Bath and England prop John Mallett. He is supported by a team of 18 coaches. John said, “The Six Nations is an exciting time at Millfield. Our current students and staff take great pride in supporting their teams with the added interest of watching Old Millfieldians in action. The individual journeys of our participants this year will undoubtedly add to the spice of the special tournament.”

There are a large number of Old Millfieldians who are playing or have played international rugby. This includes Chris Robshaw, Harlequins and former Captain for England; Jonathan Joseph, Bath and England; Adam Hastings, Glasgow and Scotland; and Sir Gareth Edwards of Wales and The British and Irish Lions. Millfield were named as the number one rugby school in the world in NextGenXV’s 2022 rankings in recognition of their unrivalled programme and proud rugby history and were crowned St Joseph’s Rugby Festival Champions for a record eighth time in October – the most successful team in the tournament’s history, and the first ever team to win the prestigious competition in consecutive years.
