09 Oct 2023

We are delighted to announce the remarkable achievements of our students in the 2023 GCSE examinations. On GCSE exam results day. the school community came together to celebrate the triumph of dedication, hard work, and perseverance exhibited by the students.

With over 32% 9-7 grades and 89% 9-4 grades, these eagerly awaited GCSE results have once again reaffirmed Sherfield School‘s commitment to providing a nurturing environment that fosters both academic brilliance and personal development.

At Sherfield, we take immense pride in our ‘value added’ performance, surpassing initial predictions to propel our students. This year, students outperformed baseline assessments by over 13% in grades 9-7, a testament to their remarkable progress and the school’s dedicated support.

Mr Levy, Father to Thomas in Year 11, commented, “Having moved Thomas to Sherfield in the middle of Year 10, we have watched him flourish at Sherfield both academically and personally and we were delighted with his GCSE results this summer. Through some excellent teaching (with thanks to Mr Wignall), Thomas has developed a passion for the sciences which he is now going to study at Sherfield’s sixth form. The school has also provided a great deal of pastoral care, and our thanks also go to Mr Page (Head of Seniors) for his outstanding support. Thomas is excited to continue his studies and Sherfield and enters sixth form with a great deal of enthusiasm and is looking forward to the opportunities ahead of him.”

This year’s top grades were achieved by Eunie, Aayan, Emily, and Shreya, collectively securing an impressive 18 grade 9s between them.

Mr Duncan Page, Head of Seniors, remarked, “This group of pupils was the first I was responsible for as a Head of Phase when I arrived at Sherfield in 2018 and it has been a real privilege to see them through the challenging GCSE years.  They are, of course, one of the last groups to have contended with remote learning at such a crucial stage of their education but have faced that challenge well.  It was great to have so many positive conversations with pupils and parents this morning and our Year 11 are clearly entering the next phase of their education with resilience and focus.  It was also encouraging to see that our overall results – including the top grade 9s – have improved on 2019 which is a useful pre-Covid benchmark and demonstrates that our results at GCSE continue to be consistently pleasing.  I wish all those who received their results today the very best for next year and beyond.”

Benefiting from the unwavering dedication of our teachers, Sherfield School’s students have demonstrated outstanding achievements across various subjects. Remarkably, over 70% of our Food and Nutrition students achieved 9-7 grades and nearly 70% accomplished a 9-7 grade in Chemistry and Art. Further Maths and Music saw over half the students securing 9-7 grades, while 50% of Geography students received a 9-7 grade. Additionally, close to half the students in Drama, Biology, and Physics achieved 9-7 grades.

Mr Nick Brain, Executive Head, commented, “In these exceptional GCSE results, we see the culmination of our students’ dedication and the unwavering support of our teachers and parents. The strong student-teacher rapport at Sherfield School has played a pivotal role in creating an environment conducive to development and discovery. These results not only signify academic success but also a testament to the students’ resilience and versatility.”

The GCSE results announcement is not just a celebration of grades; it is a celebration of the spirit of learning, determination, and the promise of a bright future. We congratulate all the students on their accomplishments and look forward to witnessing the incredible impact they will undoubtedly make on the world.
