The Beacon, an independent school located in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, entered thirteen of their ski-enthusiastic boys in Years 6-8 to the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) Ski Championship 2023. The event took place in Passo Del Tonale, Italy, on Sunday 5 March to Friday 10 March.

Tuesday was when they tackled the well-known IAPS Giant Slalom and in turn took part in the qualifiers. William F, Year 7 boy, qualified for the championship race – no easy feat after only two days of slalom!

On Wednesday the qualifying team, Finlay F, Thomas S and William F, took on the parallel slalom. William won his race and ended the week 8th fastest out of 95 others, an outstanding achievement.

Thursday – the big day, the plate races! The Beacon had four teams taking part, with every single boy achieving a personal best as they raced through the final gate archway to the sounds of cheers and cow bells.

As the week came to a close all seventeen schools attended the IAPS formal prize giving. The Beacon took home the silver medal for the Under Elevens. Louis DS, Finlay F, Thomas S, and Cameron R in Year 6 proudly bought it home for the team.

An exhilarating event and big success for The Beacon.
