ISA Tag Rugby at The Mead

14 Jul 2020

Westward travelled to The Mead for the ISA Tag tournament on a rather wet Wednesday in March with a squad of eight (Henry, Oliver and Oliver, Aidan, Torin, Isaac, Harry and Oscar).

The tournament was round robin format: two leagues of four. Westward beat Oakfield in their opening fixture, lost to eventual winners The Mead in the second fixture before resuming winning ways against Sacred Heart B.

Safely through to the semi-finals, Westward lined up against the winners of Group 2: Lewis Old Grammar. A thrilling match resulted in a 10-10 draw, which was decided on a ‘Golden try’ system with Westward unfortunately not triumphant.

After picking themselves up, a third and fourth place play-off beckoned against Sacred Heart A. Another very tight match ensued, unfortunately Westward came second by one try in the final moments of normal time.

In the end, a fourth place, but a fourth place that could so easily have been second. A super effort from all involved both on and off the pitch, accurately reflecting the school and its ethos.
