Kings Bournemouth independent college Dorset

Long-term student Kotaro Nishimura, from Japan, recently studied the Diploma of Intensive English course for 40 weeks at Kings Bournemouth. We spoke to him about Bournemouth, his lessons and social activities.

Hi Kotaro, where are you from?

I am from Japan. My home city is Fukuoka in the south part of Japan.

Why are you improving your English?

Especially for finding a job, because there are Japanese companies that recruit people who can speak English.

What jobs in particular will you be looking for?

I’m not sure but maybe I would like to work for a trading company.

What made you decide to come to Kings Bournemouth?

I asked my agent to look at schools with a nice place, with different activities to do, which is why I chose it.

What course are you taking?

I am doing general English, as well as some SIG (Special Interest Groups) such as listening and speaking, and reading and writing. Also a business class which I find very interesting. We have discussions about real problems within a company and my teacher gave us a lot of knowledge about specific things in a business.

In your English classes, what do you enjoy the most, and what do you find challenging?

I think the most enjoyable and most challenging is the same thing, exchanging my opinion with other students is the most challenging but most enjoyable as well. And I find it very helpful to see the improvement with my English.

Have you made any friends during your time at Kings?

Yes some other Japanese students and some other Asian students from Taiwan and Korea. Also some European students and South American too.

Where are you staying?

I am living in a private flat next to the gardens, which is nice and peaceful. Sometimes noisy at the weekend, but I like it.

Have you taken part in any of the extracurricular activities at Kings Bournemouth?

Yes I have been playing football at Littledown on Fridays and Saturdays. I think playing sports is a good opportunity to meet and talk to new friends. I also have been on some different trips to Bath and Old Harry Rocks.

What do you think of the school’s location?

I think in SPQ (St Peter’s Quarter) where I have my classes it’s perfect because it is close to the town centre. And in the summer I like it because very close to the beach to go and relax after classes.

What are your plans after your time at Kings?

I am first going to take a short holiday to Barcelona to have a break from studying. Then I am going to move back to Japan to study at university, after I would like to find a job at a trading company in Japan.

Please tell me about your best memory during your time at Kings?

I think especially meeting my new friends and spending time with them socialising and having fun together. I am sad that I will be leaving but I want to stay talking to them and see them after I leave also.

What would you say to anybody that is considering coming to study at Kings?

I think that choosing Kings Bournemouth is a very good choice because it has a great location and the people at the school are nice and helpful. You will also make lots of new friends.
