General Information

Caterham Preparatory School is an integral part of Caterham School and our overall intention is to provide an excellent all-round education so that every pupil can achieve his or her full potential intellectually, physically and creatively.
We aim to provide a sound foundation for boys and girls in a warm and friendly environment. We believe that truly excellent education is about more than academic achievement alone: it is also about developing a passion for learning, moral values, self-confidence without arrogance and genuine interests that extend beyond the confines of the classroom.
We are a family school with Christian values so we believe that the virtues of tolerance, understanding, respect and courtesy really matter. The School is well served by staff who share this vision. Their dedication ensures that pupils have access to the highest standards of pastoral care and a wide-ranging selection of enriching co-curricular activities.

Facilities

The Preparatory School and the Senior School share a 200 acre campus in the beautiful Harestone Valley but have separate buildings. The Prep School is accommodated in Mottrams (Pre Prep) and Shirley Goss (Prep), which are located at the far end of the campus. The school runs a varied co-curricular music programme which includes 3 string groups, 4 choirs, wind band, brass ensemble, classical guitar group and 2 percussion groups. These ensembles cater for all musicians, from beginners upwards. School ensembles regularly participate in community events and Music Festivals. Individual lessons on a wide range of instruments is available. Sports play a significant role in school life with boys playing Football, Rugby, Cricket and Hockey and girls playing Netball, Lacrosse and Rounders. Girls also have Gymnastics lessons. All children have two terms of Swimming and in the summer term enjoy an extensive Athletics programme. All pupils are able to participate in activities at lunchtime or in After School Clubs and these range from Orienteering, Dance, language clubs and computers to chess, Science, Art and Craft clubs.

Location Description

Some believe a school is best located in the countryside, others that it should be close to a town. Caterham is both. The school is just under a mile from the town centre, and only five minutes from Junction 6 of the M25, but neither is visible - or audible. Screened by beech woods and protected from urban sprawl, the school's 200-acre campus sits at the head of the lovely Harestone Valley, which winds up from the town to the ancient North Downs Way. London lies to the north - close, but not too close - making cultural visits, sports fixtures and work experience alike easy to organise and rewarding to do. The M25 links into motorways east, west and north. There is a railway station at Caterham, with regular services to London.

ETS once again performed superbly at St. Christopher’s festival and were admired by all of the other children from schools in Surrey and South London.

The special guest conductor, Bob Chilcott was most impressed by their performances and commented on how inspirational they will have been to the younger children. Bob Chilcott’s music is well known by ETS singers, in particular his beautiful Peace Mass that they performed last month in Belgium. It was a great opportunity for them to work with such a respected choral composer. Solo pieces from ETS included Elgar’s Ave Verum Corpus which was sung to perfection. ETS then provided harmonies and descents in the massed choral items which included Bob Chilcott’s anthem, Can You Hear Me?’. This moving piece is unique as it employs sign language.

Congratulations to ETS on another stunning performance.

title role performance in Macbeth, staged and produced by Glow Theatre Group. His performance was described by the adjudicator as demonstrating exceptional flexibility both physically and vocally and portraying the emotional intensity needed for the role.

Other Prep students participating in the performance were Poppy L, Tilly G, Thomas B and Brooke P. All the children helped to procure a nomination for Best Stage Presentation, and Brooke P was nominated in Best Young Actress category for her role as one of the three witches.
