Great Walstead School
At Great Walstead it is as much about the journey as it is the outcome! For many years now 100% of our Year 8 Leavers have gained a place at the Senior School of their choice – many with scholarships and awards. However, it is the care and experiences they receive along the way that truly shape their future.
We reward children who are risk-takers, who show resilience and determination, and those who demonstrate that most important behaviour, curiosity. These qualities are seen in abundance in younger children – you only have to watch five year olds at play to see that they are naturally inquisitive about everything around them. Thereafter, it becomes increasingly important to lessen the ‘fear of failure’ phenomenon that often flourishes (if not kept in check) as children grow older, ensuring that they feel comfortable about putting forward their opinions and ideas, in an environment where mistakes are viewed as just one more step to success.
As we all know, learning is a lifelong process. Bestowing a genuine love of learning on our girls and boys (and the entire community) we feel that we are preparing them for a world that is dynamic and increasingly competitive.

Facilities
The school is set in over 260 acres of beautiful Sussex woodland. Our grounds play a big part in the learning and development of the children at the school. Pupils use the outdoor facilities daily, to explore, learn and take part in educational activities.
Here at Great Walstead our teachers are leaders in their field. They combine excellence in education with teaching pupils fundamental lessons in life, such as kindness and good manners, and help to prepare them for the outside world.
Alongside the academic work the children enjoy fabulous opportunities in sports and visual and performing arts. The Art, Craft and Design Technology department is housed in old farm buildings, which have been adapted to make workshops and studios. Lessons here form an integral part of the curriculum for all children.
The school’s extensive grounds allow a wide range of sports, from rugby and hockey to cricket and rounders. Swimming is possible all year round in our own heated pool. We have a superbly equipped sports hall and Astro pitch, which allow large numbers of both team and individual sports to be played.
