Handcross Park independent day and boarding school West Sussex

In the beautiful autumn sunshine, Handcross Park’s new all-weather pitch was officially opened by Team GB hockey player Dan Fox.

During the afternoon, Mr Fox led

some hockey coaching sessions with all the boys and girls at the school, giving them game tips and tactics before cutting the ribbon in front of Richard Brown (Headmaster), the children and parents, many of whom had donated to the pitch itself.

The afternoon was rounded off with an Exhibition Match between Handcross Park staff and ex-pupils.  The teaching staff were delighted that they managed to maintain a narrow lead at 5-4.

Afterwards Mr Brown commented: “Dan Fox, fresh from the Rio Olympics, led this wonderful afternoon to celebrate this fantastic new facility from which all the children at Handcross Park will benefit”.

Handcross Park was transformed into Hogwarts for World Book Day.  From the moment the children came to school, greeted by Hagrid at Platform 9 3/4

and entering into the main hall with floating candles and talking portraits, they were transported to the magical world of Harry Potter.

With lessons taking a distinctly mystical air, the children were taught Care of Mythical Creatures by Hagrid, Potions by Mad Eye Moody and Professor Sprout with a quick game of quidditch on the tennis courts!

It was a truly amazing day and the children’s imagination were able to run wild during their creative writing lessons – with many of the children stating that they were going home to read the Harry Potter books!

Congratulations to the 1st Rugby team (and their coaches) who, after two very exciting final matches against Lancing Prep and Dorset House recently, have remained
