Activity, Service strand.

Our current L6 group gave an assembly to the younger girls focusing on what they had achieved over the past year, providing ideas and inspiration for those who might consider taking the qualification in the Sixth Form.

The projects focused on included Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, producing an Economics Magazine, starting new clubs, volunteering in care homes and with various charities and travelling to Botswana to help teach at a local school, working with Botswanan children and communities.

Mrs Vanessa Sinclair, CAS co-ordinator, said: “Lots of the girls were really inspired by the sixth formers – their attitude and sense of fun about the amazing range of things that they have been doing in CAS, hopefully making the IB less scary to them.”

On Saturday 18th May, 16 members of Headington staff donned their walking shoes to take part in the Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbon Walk.

The group

walked 10 miles around the stunning Blenheim Palace, to raise funds for a cause close to the hearts of the walkers.

Everyone was inspired by the story of Petri, who spoke to the walkers before they set off about her own personal journey and how the charity had supported her throughout. Headington formed a team to support Director of Sport, Mrs Naida Burton and the Prep School’s Mrs Rebecca Klico, both of whom are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The Headington team were delighted to be seen off on their trek by Mrs Burton who came with her son to cheer us on.

Most of the 600 walkers on the day had very personal reasons for taking part, some of whom were accompanied by four legged walkers also dressed in pink T-shirts!

The walkers made their way through Combe before returning to the Blenheim estate, visiting the Victory Column and the lakes in front of the palace before returning to pass the Pleasure Gardens and finally the finish line! Some walkers were fast and some slow, however after nearly four hours, the Headington team crossed the line together, having tied their pink ribbons to the wall in honour of those who they were walking for.

the first team from Oxfordshire to win the South Counties Hockey Championship in this age group.

The girls took their title undefeated across eight games, winning five and drawing three.

Of the 22-strong squad, six girls, Lexi, Kate, Holly, Maddie, Emma and players’ player of the season Ciara, are from Headington.

Two years ago, the side finished just one position from the bottom without securing a single win while the title is also a marked improvement on last year’s result, when the girls finished with five wins and three defeats.

Well done girls!
