General Information

St. Nicholas Preparatory School is a happy, vibrant independent school with Montessori Nursery.

We are a modern school founded on traditional values that prepares children for entrance to leading London schools. Together with academic and intellectual accomplishment we believe that the happiness of a child is a true measure of success, and that children learn best when they are happy. We therefore focus on developing the whole person and successfully prepare each pupil for life as a fulfilled adult.

We have great space, outdoors and indoors, which pupils benefit from on a daily basis. A large, secure garden to the rear of the building is used by nursery and reception children for PE and Games lessons with a specialist PE teacher. It is also a playground and each day all children enjoy “garden time” in this wonderful outdoor space. Across the road in Hyde Park our older pupils can be found playing football and rounders, and children in Years 1-6 walk the short distance to Imperial College to use its large purpose built sports hall for gymnastics, netball and rock climbing. All children in Years 2-6 have a weekly swimming lesson in the Imperial College 25m indoor swimming pool.

St. Nicholas School is surrounded by a wealth of natural opportunity, being adjacent to the Royal Colleges of Art and Music, The Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the V&A, the Royal Albert Hall and Albert Memorial, and the Hyde Park Tennis Club. All of these and more are visited by pupils on a regular basis.

There is exciting news regarding future plans for St. Nicholas Prep School. The school has operated successfully in our current premises since the 1950s, but

we are always exploring how we can develop and enhance the educational experience we provide our pupils. In keeping with this aim, we have identified a new home for our school and nursery from September 2019 that offers a bigger and more flexible space for our learning environment.

Working in partnership with Cognita, we have finalised a lease agreement with Imperial College London for four townhouses at 10-13 Princes Gardens; just around the corner from our existing site. Subject to planning approval, the new site will be refurbished to provide an inspiring place to learn for our pupils.

The new site faces our existing one and we will continue to use the garden. Cognita will be investing a substantial sum on refurbishing the new premises and together we are now exploring the educational opportunities that this new development can offer our pupils.

We are hopeful that the children and staff will be able to start the 2019 academic year in the new buildings.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the admissions office on 020 7225 1277 or email
