Millfield GCSE and BTEC students celebrate results

Millfield Year 11 students are celebrating receiving their GCSE and BTEC results today. This year’s cohort have all shown incredible dedication, hard work to achieve today’s set of results.

Ella Osborne, from Teignmouth, Devon, joined Millfield in Year 9. Ella was this year’s top achiever, receiving an incredible nine 9s and an A in Additional Maths (the highest grade available). Her love for learning has seen Ella take part in Maths and Languages Olympiads. She regularly attended Combined Cadet Force (CCF), taking part in several residential camps, while also gaining her silver Duke of Edinburgh award this year. She has represented the school at regional trampolining competitions and took part in Millfield’s newly formed water polo programme. Ella also volunteers at her local library and youth centre. She was awarded with school academic attainment awards for Geography, German, PE and Global Business, while she was also recognised for her academic commitment. Ella said: “I’m very happy. I was surprised when I saw my results but a lot of hard work went into them. I am going to study Biology and Chemistry but I am not sure of the third A level yet.”

Mllfield-2023-GCSEsOran Davies, from Harrogate, Yorkshire, joined Millfield at the start of Year 11. Today he achieved eight 9s, one 8 and one 7. Oran received a school prize for academic attainment in French and was nominated for his academic commitment. Next year he is going to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and German.

Eric Chen achieved eight 9s, one 8 and one 7. He joined Millfield in Year 9 and is the holder of the Amy Yuan Music Scholarship. He is a talented musician and has performed in numerous ensembles, solos and concerts and competed in the Millfield Musician of the Year competition. Last year, Eric won a Bronze award in the UK Linguistics Olympiad (Intermediate), a fantastic achievement. He is incredibly self-motivated and has worked exceedingly hard.

Ewan Pedersen, from Norway, joined Millfield in Year 9. He achieved eight 9s, one 8 and one 7. He is a Norwegian national level freestyle and backstroke swimmer who was part of the relay team that won the British Summer Championships and broke the national record in the process. This Easter, he claimed three personal best times at the South West Swimming Championships, held at Millfield.

Georgina Hawkins, from Isle of Bute, Somerset, received eight 9s, one 8 and one 5. Georgina applies herself fully to her academics and gains numerous good news per week. She is an excellent swimmer and regularly competes at National Events. She received school academic attainment awards in Latin and Spanish.

Alexander Hutchcroft, from Street, Somerset, has just completed his 12th year at Millfield, having joined Millfield Pre-Prep in Reception. Today he achieved seven 9s, one 8 and two 7s. Alexander was the recipient of the school prize for Academic Attainment in Computing and was nominated for his Academic Commitment. A keen percussionist, Alexander is a regular performer at school concerts, and part of the Symphonic Winds Group. Alexander also takes part in the school’s Karate programme. Next year he is going to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science.

Alexander said “Ever since I joined Millfield in reception, my journey here has been nothing short of exhilarating. Alongside the core GCSE subjects, I am also taking computer science, music, geography and additional maths. I never shy away from seeking knowledge – I actively participate in the various academic competitions Millfield offers including: IMC, SMC, UKLO, BMO, and many more. Whether it’s academically, musically, or athletically, I strive to make the most of Millfield’s rich offerings as I transition into Sixth Form.”

Harasees Singh Bhasin, from Delhi, India, joined Millfield Prep School in Year 7. Harasees achieved six 9s, two 8s and two 7s. He was nominated for the school academic award in Physics this year. Harasees enjoys taking part in house events, and next year is looking to study A levels in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths.

Ivan Hart, who is from Somerton, Somerset, joined Millfield in Year 9. He achieved eight 9s, one 7 and one 5. A talented swimmer, Ivan is a multiple regional and county champion and has been selected for multiple national talent pathways and swimming camps. Ivan has represented Kenya in the pool and holds senior Kenyan national records in 800m and 1500m freestyle and 400m medley. Last December, he travelled to Melbourne to represent Kenya in the FINA World Swimming Championships.

Angel Li achieved six 9s, two 8s, one 7 and one 5. She joined in Year 10 and has been a dedicated and focussed student this year. Out of class she enjoyed playing badminton and participated in maths challenges. She particularly enjoyed the house maths challenge, working with her friends in a team.

Katie Saunders, from Surrey, joined Millfield in Year 10, and received seven 9s and two 8s. Katie is a talented and keen skier and went on to win the overall English and British Ski championships this year. As a result of her success, Katie became one of only three U16 girls from Great Britain to be selected for the world’s pre-eminent children’s ski race, the Alpe Cimbra FIS children’s cup in Folgaria, Italy. Katie will be studying Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Maths next year at A level.

Natalie Ng, who joined Millfield in Year 10, from Hong Kong, achieved six 9s and three 8s. Natalie is a keen academic and dancer, she also has a passion for cooking which she demonstrated in house during Chinese New Year celebrations, creating an incredible sharing feast. She received the school academic attainment award for English this year.

Flynn Godfrey, from Dunmow, joined Millfield in Year 10. He achieved six 9s, one 8, one 7 and one 5. Flynn was part of the Millfield tennis academy and was incredibly conscientious in balancing his tennis and academic commitments. He represented the school in the National Tennis Finals this year, part of the first Millfield tennis team in 10 years to win a National Schools title.

Annabel Chan moved to Millfield from Hong Kong for Year 9. Today she received five 9s, four 8s and an A in Additional Maths (the highest grade available). Annabel regularly competed in national swimming competitions and consistently medalled for her age group in the 50m and 100m butterfly events. As a result of her performances in the pool, she was invited to be part of the Swim England National Development Camp. She regularly represented her house at inter-house cross country, swimming, athletics and maths events. Annabel is an accomplished pianist, and participates in two school chamber groups, while also reaching the final of Millfield Musician of the Year in the diploma category for piano.

Solien Peeters achieved five 9s, two 8s and two 6s. Based in Belgium, she looked at Millfield for Sixth Form but was impressed on her visit and immediately joined in Year 10. She has a strong work ethic and began training as a pentathlete in Year 11.

Tansy Fowler, from Bridgwater, joined Millfield Prep in Year 4. Tansy achieved five 9s, one 8, one 7, one 6 and one 5. Tansy was selected for the National Youth Choir. Tansy regularly performs in school concerts and was named as Contemporary Vocalist winner in this year’s Millfield Musician of the Year competition. She was also selected for the National Youth Choir. She was given the school award for co-curricular achievement for music and was part of the Millfield Chess team who qualified for the National Finals in Cardiff.

Zoe Holloway, from Surrey, joined Millfield Prep in Year 7. She received four 9s, four 8s and two 7s. Zoe was given the school award for her academic commitment this year and received the Silver award in the UK Biology Challenge in 2022. Zoe was part of the record-breaking Millfield Fencing team who were crowned Overall Public School Fencing Champions in the competition held at Lee Valley. She is a member of the girls’ rugby and hockey teams, and enjoys participating in tennis.

Nidal Shah, from Yeovil, joined Millfield Prep in Year 4. He achieved four 9s, three 8s and three 7s. Nidal is a member of the Millfield Chess team and achieved the bronze award for the British Physics Olympiad. Nidal was also awarded the school academic achievement awards for Physics and Religious Studies.

Louisa Bingham, from Glastonbury, Somerset, joined Millfield in Year 9. Today she achieved four 9s, four 8s, one 7 and one 5. Louisa took part in a variety of school drama productions, including Much Ado About Nothing and Blue Stockings, and recently completed her LAMDA Grade 7. A member of the Junior School Choir, Louisa performed in many major school concerts, participated in Tea and Drama/Dance performances and the Dance show. She was recognised with school academic attainment awards in Drama and History. She also completed her silver Duke of Edinburgh award.

Charlotte Hardy, who joined Millfield in Year 10, achieved four 9s, four 8s and one 7. Charlotte has demonstrated incredible dedication to both her academics and her swimming. Charlotte is in the Scottish Junior squad and competed for Scotland in the Geneva International Open in January. She broke the Scottish Junior record in 200m breaststroke and won the British Summer Championships for 100m breaststroke.

Kieran Campbell achieved four 9s, two 8s, two 7s, and a 6. Kieran is a top academic and was nominated for an academic commitment award. Kieran is also a member of Millfield’s fencing squad, who have been Overall Public School Champions for ten years in a row.

Mahay Syedain, from Riyadh, joined Millfield in Year 10 and achieved three 9s, three 8s and three 7s. Mahay represented and trained avidly with the Millfield 1st XI girls football squad on many occasions often leading warm up sessions. She was also awarded the school academic attainment award for Hospitality and Catering.

Haika Macha, from London, joined Millfield in Year 9, and achieved three 9s, four 8s and three 7s. She plays a wide a range of sports, and has taken part in Girl’s Rugby, Netball, Volleyball and Tennis. She was awarded a merit in The British Maths Olympiad and a gold award in the UK Biology Challenge, and was given the school academic attainment award for computing this year. She played netball during the autumn and spring terms. Haika will now study Biology, Geography, Maths and Philosophy at A level, and hopes to pursue a career in social or environmental sciences.

George Charman, from Street, Somerset, joined Millfield Prep in Year 6. He received three 9s, three 8s, three 7s and one 6. A keen musician, George passed his grade 8 in piano with merit during Year 11. He is also part of the Millfield swim squad, and recorded personal best times in 50m,100m and 200m Freestyle and 50m and 100m butterfly this year. He was awarded the school academic attainment award for Chinese this year.

Daniel Heath, from Street, Somerset, joined Millfield Prep in Year 7. He received three 9s, four 8s, one 7, and one 6. Daniel achieved the gold award in the UK Biology Challenge, which is only awarded to the top 5% of participants. An accomplished swimmer, Daniel has participated in Swim England National Development camps and been selected into Swim England National Development squads.

Chizara Elechi, from Woking, Surrey, and received three 9s, four 8s, one 7 and one 6. She joined Millfield Prep School in Year 7 and entered the senior school as an all rounder with both academic and sports scholarships, in addition to a Headmaster’s Award Scholarship. Chizara has contributed to a number of sports, most notably netball. Academics became increasingly her focus and she demonstrated remarkable dedication to her studies this year.
