Cheltenham Ladies’ College – SKIING – BRITISH SCHOOLGIRL RACES 2018

16 Feb 2018

With some notable success at the races this year, we were delighted at prize giving to make it onto the podium five times.

The team was made up of:
A – Rose, Alex and Sophie
B – Luisa, Sonya and Stella
Reserves – JoJo and Starr

There are two medal categories used for this competition:

Registered racers – necessary if you wish to enter national competitions and gain a ‘seeding’ similar to a rating in tennis – and non registered racers – this category accounts for the majority of girls and means they are not doing a huge number of races ‘on the circuit’.

Medal winners were:

Rose – 3rd place in slalom and 3rd place in the combined results from the two events of slalom and giant slalom as an U16 (in her first year in this age group).

Sonya – 3rd place in slalom and 3rd place in the combined results from the two events of slalom and giant slalom as an U14 (in her first competition).

Alex – 3rd place in slalom as a U14 registered skier. This result for Alex, who has only just become a registered skier since entering the Anglo / Scottish Champs at Christmas, means that she has now qualified for the British Championships in Tignes, France at Easter.

In addition, the parallel slalom team (Sophie, Alex, Rose) also won the plate competition.

Sadly, all this was achieved without one of our best skiers, Binia, due to an injury she sustained over the Christmas holiday.

Ski Girl Races Feb 2018 4

It goes without saying that the girls have worked extremely hard to achieve this success. Another reason for this recent success is undoubtedly our strong relationship with Kandahar Racing club. Our thanks go to them for providing the training at the dry slope and, most importantly, providing the structure to allow some girls the opportunity to join their training camps on snow during the holidays.

Congratulations go to all the girls on their outstanding performances at the races this year.
