144 Wellingtonians Become Potential Lifesavers

11 Apr 2017

Tuesday 14th March was not your average lunch time for the 144 potential life-saving Sixth Form Wellingtonians who signed up to the Anthony Nolan stem cell donor list.

The pupils were offered a chance to join the Anthony Nolan donor list at a ‘Register and Be a Lifesaver’ (R&Be) event hosted at the College. The R&Be education programme helps to teach 16-18 year olds about the importance of donating stem cells, blood and organs. Since its formation, 55 people recruited at R&Be events have gone on to donate their stem cells or bone marrow.

Will Guest, Regional Development Manager for the South East, said: ‘For this lifesaving event at Wellington College to result in 144 people joining the Anthony Nolan register is incredible – that’s 144 people who all have the potential to go on to save the life of someone in desperate need.

‘This is our second year working alongside Wellington College, and our special thanks goes to them for helping us to recruit a new generation of potential lifesavers to the Anthony Nolan register. We look forward to continuing our lifesaving partnership in the future’

We hope that Wellington College and our pupils will continue to support Anthony Nolan with the shame enthusiasm for years to come.
