A Buzz of Excitement in the Leighton Park School Library

30 Sep 2013

The library at Leighton Park School has recently hosted two author events and also launched the Book Buzz scheme with Year 7 students.

Newly published author and journalist, Holly Bourne, introduced her first novel (Soulmates) to members of three senior book groups. Holly also spoke about her work as a journalist for a local paper and her current work as an ‘agony aunt’ on a website for older teenagers

Old Leightonian, Professor Martin Lockley, spoke to members of Fryer Book Group and the Agora group about his work as a ‘dinosaur hunter’ and in particular about his recent visit to China where there are plenty of dinosaur footprints to be found. In addition to a selection of his books which he donated to the library, Martin has also provided Leighton Park with electronic copies of all his research papers, an invaluable resource for students interested in the field.

Year 7 students at Leighton Park School are currently being invited to choose a free book from a selection of recent publications selected by the Book Buzz scheme from Book Trust. At Leighton Park we are particularly keen to help all our students develop and maintain a habit of reading for pleasure, which according to recent research can have a definite impact on academic achievement.
