A great taste of English School life at Wrekin College

30 Jun 2015

Each academic year overseas students join us at Wrekin College to experience English school-life for a term. This year we are privileged to host twelve students from a range of nations including Spain, Russia, Germany, South Africa and Australia. One of our current students, Jorge Galardi, pictured driving the train, writes of his time here at Wrekin.

‘Some might find coming for a term to a school hard in two ways – settling down with subjects and teachers and getting on with people. For me this has not been hard at all. As Wrekin has lots of international students, other pupils here have been through the same experience so everyone receives you very nicely.

My experience here is of it being perfect, the school is very good has many facilities and the most important thing is the staff and pupils are really kind. I am having a great experience.

What really makes Wrekin College special for me is the sports facilities. For people who really like sport this is a really sporty school, whether you are good or not you have a team and you train four days a week.’

Whilst our permanent students sit exams in May, these overseas students take part in an interesting and varied programme of outings, which this year have included fun days out to Attingham Park, Chirk Castle and Chester. A trip to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on 18th May, and a visit to Wroxeter Roman Village on 20th May.

On 22nd May the students visited Blists Hill Victorian Town followed by a visit to the historic Shropshire town of Ironbridge. At Blists Hill the students posed for a picture with a locomotive named after Sir Peter Gadsden (b1929 – d2006) a former pupil and Head Boy at Wrekin College. Sir Peter had a distinguished career and held positions as Sheriff of London, Alderman of the City of London and then 652nd Lord Mayor of London, he was formerly Chair of Wrekin College Governors.
