Art for Youth North Exhibition held at Queen Mary’s

27 Oct 2016

Queen Mary’s School proved to be the perfect setting for a stunning contemporary art exhibition organised by the prestigious Art for Youth North.  Pieces by some of the region’s biggest names were on display and for the first time a designated youth area was included with work by students from various art schools, and from Queen Mary’s School Art Scholars.

With over 600 pieces displayed, it is often described as the “Summer Exhibition of the North” and it showcased new and recent work by emerging and established Northern artists. Sponsored by investment managers JM Finn & Co, the event raised well over £20,000.00 for the national youth charity – UK Youth and around 350 people attended.

Since 2001 Art for Youth North has taken place bi-annually in Yorkshire and has raised over £200,000 for the charity.  Following a private viewing at the school on Wednesday 19 October, it opened to the public over the next three days, proving immensely popular.

Head, Mrs Carole Cameron said: “It is hard to envisage a more appropriate backdrop to the exhibition than Queen Mary’s. Our stunning historic building with the contemporary creativity of the artists seemed to enhance the exhibition. We hope we have provided a welcoming space for visitors. It was particularly special for the eight Queen Mary’s girls whose work was well-received.”
