Bromsgrove School – String Chamber Day
27 Mar 2017
Bromsgrove Music department hosted a wonderful day of music making by Winterfold House School, Bromsgrove Prep and Senior Schools on Friday 24th February.
Twenty-three musicians formed into five quartets and a trio, working on a range of repertoire with members of our string teaching department. Rehearsals and coaching sessions took place all day, as pupils prepared for their performances at the informal concert in the Memorial Chapel at the end of the workshop. The concert included repertoire by Tartini, Handel, Purcell, Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar, Hook, Vivaldi and Corelli; all performed by the newly formed chamber groups, as well as the junior and senior string orchestras.
The string tutors opened the concert with the performance of a movement from Mozart’s Divertimento in F and the senior string orchestra gave a finale performance of two movements from Handel’s Organ Concerto ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ played on the organ Mr Knight.
Mrs Fiona Swadling from Bromsgrove Music department said “The String Chamber day was a huge success, it was such an inspiring day for pupils and tutors alike. All day the music department was a hive of activity, with sounds of string playing coming from virtually every room. The concert was a particularly special moment in the day and pupils produced some wonderful performances”.
