Bromsgrove School – Young Musician’s Platform

Talented pianist, Jude Wynter of Bromsgrove School was awarded first prize in the final of The Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform on Saturday 11th February.
Jude, who has been playing piano for 8 years beat off fierce competition in the Senior category of the competition for musicians aged 14-17 yrs.
Well done also to Joshua Osborn-Patel who competed in the preliminary rounds of the competition.
Jude gave a polished performance of Nocturne in D flat minor op.27 no 2 by Chopin and Menuet Antique by Ravel. The adjudicators noted that Jude’s playing was accomplished and delivered with passion.
Mrs Monica Toso, Chairman of the Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform said “The standard of technical ability and individual interpretation by each of the ten finalists in the Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform 2017 was of the highest standard and in many cases surpassed their actual age. Those in the audience expressed the view that they felt privileged to have listened to such amazing talent.”
The Bromsgrove Young Musicians’ Platform is open to all those who are at school or resident in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. The junior section is for those aged 9-13 and Seniors aged 14-17. It is hoped that one day the success of the
competition will lead it into the realm of being a national opportunity for young musicians.
The finalists of the competition were selected on merit by the distinguished Adjudicators. All competitors will be awarded certificates of commendation, however, the two best performances from each section will be granted financial bursaries paid to accredited providers enabling the winners to further develop their musical talent.
Prizes awarded were: £1,000 – Senior category
£ 750 – Junior category
Each category also has a second award of £400.
The Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition (BIMC) was founded originally as a platform for young talented musicians in 1980 by Mary White, on the advice of Dr Donald Hunt, the then Artistic Director of the Bromsgrove Festival.
Many outstanding and talented young musicians have since taken part. Many of the winners and finalists have gone on to enjoy national and international fame. The competition is run by a trust, the Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition, which is a registered charity (no.1155544). The competition is open to instrumentalists and pianists of all nationalities aged 18 to 25 (28 for singers).
Now in its 37th year, the 2017 Bromsgrove International Musicians’ Competition will be held at Bromsgrove School from 4th – 8th April. Musicians from across the globe will battle it out during the preliminary rounds (4-7 April) in front of acclaimed adjudicators, Edmond Fivet CBE, Chairman of Adjudicators, the outstanding cellist Hannah Roberts and Andrew Zolinsky, Professor of Piano at the Royal College of Music.
The BIMC Finalists’ Concert will take place on the evening of Saturday 8th April. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bromsgrovecompetition.com . There is free entry to the preliminary rounds of the competition.
