Careers Fair Inspires and Informs

31 Mar 2016

The Sutton Hall at LWC was transformed into an inspiring exhibition space at the annual Careers Fair.

It was a stimulating afternoon, with over 40 parents and alumni from a diverse range of professions and sectors on hand to talk to pupils, including a barrister from the CPS, physiotherapist, chartered surveyor, orthopaedic surgeon, engineer, pilot, architect and jewellery maker.  The delegates offered valuable insight into how they reached their positions and over 400 pupils from Years 9-13 were eager to ask questions and get career advice at this key stage in their school career. Some delegates spoke about changes to their careers, for example an architect who re-trained as a solicitor and now specialises in construction and engineering law, and the College’s own Bursar who was previously an Air Commodore in the RAF.  It was also an excellent networking opportunity and a chance for Lord Wandsworth College pupils to meet potential future employers and practise talking to people in a professional capacity.

Sharon Allmark, Head of Careers and Higher Education at Lord Wandsworth College said, “We are so grateful to the parents and Sternians (alumni) who gave up their time to talk to our pupils – their advice and experience is invaluable.  The pupils have left here feeling motivated to work hard for their futures.”
