CLC PUPILS CELEBRATE OUTSTANDING IB RESULTS

10 Jul 2019

Girls at College are celebrating their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma results having achieved an impressive average of 40.1 points, equivalent to 4 A*s at A Level and more than 10 points higher than the 2018 world average of 29.8 points.

These are the joint second-best outcomes that College has achieved in 10 years. Particularly impressive is that 68% of students from the Class of 2019 achieved 40 points or more.

Two girls, Jenny and Cindy, have been awarded the highest possible grade of 45 points. Last year, just 0.39% of 163,000 IB pupils worldwide achieved this grade. Over the last 10 years, 4% of CLC pupils have achieved full marks in their IB Diplomas.

Two girls, Lulu and Cindy, also achieved bilingual diplomas. Unprecedented for College is that Cindy qualified for her bilingual diploma while also achieving 45 points and studying four subjects at higher level.

Girls from the IB Class of 2019 have secured places at a number of prestigious universities, including Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, Pennsylvania, Brown and Carnegie Mellon in the US, as well as a range of top UK universities, including Oxford, Durham, LSE, Bristol, Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Exeter and UCL.

Pupils will go on to study a wide range of subjects, including Medicine, Engineering, Management, Liberal Arts, Literature, Architecture, Geography, French & History, Psychology and Biomedical Sciences.

Principal Eve Jardine-Young said: “I am delighted and proud that the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff has led to such outstanding results. The option to take the IB Diploma Programme adds a great deal to the distinctive education at CLC and prepares the students extremely well for university studies both in the UK and elsewhere.”

Since Cheltenham Ladies’ College began teaching the IB Diploma programme, pupils have consistently achieved high results, with the school named top girls’ boarding school in the country for IB in three of the last four years.
