College rugby players star for Surrey

Three College rugby players helped the Surrey U15 team to an emphatic victory over Sussex U15s  at Brighton RFC.

Tight head prop Elliot King, scrum half Niall Saunders and wing Will Kibblewhite, who was making his County debut, won praise from the Surrey coaches for their performances as the team stormed to a 40-5 win.

Elliot, Niall and Will, together with Jamie Palmer, won their way through to the 23-strong County squad from a field of 175 following a series of trials in January. Elliott and Niall were selected for the first match of the season – a 15-12 win over Hampshire played in atrocious conditions at Farnham RFC in February – and were set to be joined by both Will and Jamie for the Sussex match.

Unfortunately, Jamie was not fit to play as he was recovering from the effects of glandular fever, but all four boys are expected to pull on the Surrey shirt for the third match against Middlesex next month.

The boys were members of last term’s talented Junior Colts A XV, which won 8 of the 10 matches they played in the regular season.
