CUMNOR HOUSE SCHOOL IS GRADED “EXCELLENT”
30 Mar 2017
Cumnor House School for Boys and Treetops Nursery were inspected by the Independent School Inspectorate (ISI) in February and the Headmaster of the school, Floyd Steadman, is delighted to announce that they have been awarded the grade of “Excellent” across the board. This is the highest grade a school can be awarded under the ISI Inspection scheme.
“We are all delighted with this report and it gives the whole school community a sense of pride,” said Mr Steadman, who joined as Headmaster in September 2016. The report highlights the “substantial success” of the pupils in “achieving scholarships and places at senior schools of choice”. It also remarks on the “considerable success in sporting and music events.” As two of Cumnor’s Alumni are Elliot Daly and Chris Robshaw, who are part of the current England Rugby squad, it is a school of strong sporting heritage. The school provides up to 200 sports fixtures in any one term across age groups including regular overseas tours in cricket.
Mr Steadman, a former Saracens Rugby captain himself, has told parents “I am delighted to see that there are many references to the excellence of Cumnor’s provision and achievements by the pupils throughout the report.”
It’s certainly not all about Rugby at Cumnor House. The report makes reference to the “teachers’ typically high expectations” enabling pupils to make “good progress in well-informed lessons”. It goes on, “The pupils develop excellent communication skills, and are extremely confident and competent speakers. Their moral development is outstanding and their behaviour is almost always exemplary, meeting the school’s aim to encourage gentlemanliness.”
The embedding of the school’s own code of conduct “The Cumnor Way” is referred to in the report several times, which promotes the boys’ excellent belief in themselves and positive determination to succeed, whilst also displaying “excellent awareness of and sensitivity towards the needs of others”. This all supports the key summary finding in the report that “The quality of the pupil’s academic and other achievements is excellent”.
