End of an Era for Staines Prep

04 Apr 2012

On Friday 30 March, Staines Prep marked the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new one, as part of the schools recent announcement of a £3m building project due to begin this week.

The Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Sam Budd and several other councillors from Spelthorne Borough Council were among the distinguished guests invited – along with pupils, teachers and governors – to say farewell to the school in its present form.

The event began with a moving presentation of children’s memories of the school. Then a special time-capsule was unveiled and the children were asked what items of memorabilia should be placed inside. Some of the chosen items included pupil and staff lists, photos, a school badge and school literature. Other items mentioned were general artefacts from our time such as money, newspapers and a milk carton. The time capsule will be interned under the new building for 50 years until 2062.

The morning closed with a poignant address given by Peter Roberts, Headmaster and Mike Bannister, Chair of the Board.

The new building development is due to be completed by the end of the year. It will consist of a huge state-of-the-art multi-function hall, eight new classrooms and contemporary changing room and toilet facilities.

In addition to six totally modernised standard classrooms, two large fully-equipped suites will house the school’s new Science, Art, Design and Technology departments.

The project is intended to work in synergy with the school’s ethos and long-term strategy to enhance its curriculum and provide the widest range of opportunities to its pupils.

Staines Prep is poised to strongly build for the future.
