Epsom triumph in swimming gala v RGS Guildford
23 Mar 2017
The College swimming team competed at home in a swimming gala against RGS Guildford for the first time in many years. Epsom won the U14 and U16 events and RGS won the seniors. The overall result was a win for Epsom with 98 points to 88.
The well matched teams had some very tight races, but the U16 boys were the standout team, with great individual performances from Daniel Marriott (U4 C) and Max Hales (U4 Fa). Dan won the 100m freestyle in 1:03.9 and Max won the 50m backstroke in 33.6 and the under 16’s won 7 out of their 8 races. Thomas Stannard (M4 C) swam very well in the U14 age group, winning some exceptionally close races, including the 100m freestyle in 1:07.4
The U19 boys lost to RGS 25 points to 31, while the U16 Boys won 31 to 25, winning every race except the Butterfly. In the 50m breaststroke they won with a comfortable margin of four seconds, and a five second lead in the 50m backstroke. The U14 boys won 42 to 32 with a particularly strong first and second place in the 50m breaststroke.
The relays were split down the middle with RGS and Epsom winning 3 each, which sums up what was a very close gala.
