Forest School

24 Jan 2013

This term we have embarked on a new venture – Forest School. Children from Nursery to Year 2 done their waterproofs and wellies, board the brand new Manor minibus and head for Millets Farm. Down on the farm we have a designated area of forest in which we are able to explore. This term the children have had so much fun learning outside. They have observed the drastic changes of the trees from summer to autumn, looked at the rising water levels as they take the bridge over the stream (pooh sticks along the way of course!). Hunting for bugs is a great pastime, together with learning about their habitat at different times of the year. A stop for hot chocolate, hide and seek and an outdoor story are all an integral part of a busy and fulfilling morning. The children can’t wait to go back in the spring to see how the local insects have settled into the bug hotel that the children assembled for them using grasses, leaves and food. Will the home-made shelters have weathered the winter storms we wonder?
